In a health brief your grandmother was right about hot toddies warding off a cold or flu, according to Martha Howard, medical director of Wellness Associates in Chicago.
You can brew up a potent virus fighter by simply stirring the juice of a lemon and honey to taste into a cup of boiling water. Add 2 tsps. of elderberry syrup ( available at health food stores--try Nature's Way Sambucus Original Syrup). Elderberry is a proven treatment for flu and colds; in studies, it shortens recovery time by up to four days. And that's a good thing.
Also for a more spirited toddy add a jigger of whiskey, rum, bourbon or brandy a few hours before bedtime. The alcohol acts as a mild sedative and may help you sweat out the cold, says Howard.
I was asked what the pattern my sugar bowl was and it's Lady Diane I believe Made in England. I recently had the opportunity to buy a new tea set and it's the first teaset I've gotten in a while.
There is no trouble so great or grave that cannot be much diminished by a nice cup of tea.
